Cheryl Cole came dressed for her close-up in Hollywood – but hardly anyone knew who she was.
Her fellow US X Factor judge, music producer L A Reid, admitted he had not met the former Girls Aloud star before and had never heard her music.
But the 27-year-old singer was undaunted – giving the crowd a wave and insisting American viewers will get used to her Geordie accent.
As she made her first appearance on the show yesterday, Cole said: “Americans can always understand me. I’ve been here a lot, I’ve got a lot of American friends and we have the odd moments where they’re like, ‘What? What did that mean?’ – you know, a phrase.
“But I think that it’s going to be something that people get used to. And I’m proud of my accent.” However, Cole was made to play second fiddle to Paula Abdul.
