Agyness Deyn lands new film role

Model-turned-actress Agyness Deyn appears to have no plans to return to modelling having already scored her next film role.

Gearing up for the August release of Pusher – which sees her play Flo, a stripper – it has been announced that Deyn will star alongside Peter Mullan in the Terence Davies-directed Sunset Song . Based on the 1932 novel by Lewis Grassic Gibbon, the model will play Chris Guthrie, a young woman facing a life of hardship following her mother’s suicide, her ill father’s subsequent incestuous advances and the loss of her husband during the First World War.

“When I read the script I fell completely in love with the character and the story, I’m so honoured and excited to be working with Terence, he’s such an incredible director,” she told The Huffington Post . “I can’t wait to get started and just hope that I can do Chris Guthrie justice!”

Lancashire-born Deyn will have to master a Scottish accent for the part of down-trodden Guthrie in the screen adaptation of what is considered to be one of the most important Scottish novels of the 20th century.

The 29 year-old recently received positive reviews for her part The Leisure Society , staged at London’s Trafalgar Studios, and in 2010 played Aphrodite in a reworking of The Clash of the Titans .
