As co-host of the 2012 Met Ball to mark the opening of the Costume Institute of New York’s Prada and Schiaparelli exhibition, British actress Carey Mulligan wore a knockout sequined Prada dress.
After wearing the gown, the actress kindly donated the Prada design to Oxfam America to sell on the US version of the online auction site. After attracting 35 bids, it sold for $2,950 (£1,870).
An instant hit with fashion critics and across social media, Mulligan gushed that she was “really honoured” to be wearing the space age gold and silver pailette design reminiscent of fish scales to the fashion world’s biggest night out of the year.
With celebrities only wearing gowns once we think it’s a great idea to auction off practically brand new items off to charity, although she could have easily put it up on Closetbox.
