Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen beat off stiff competition from the more-established Marc Jacobs and Proenza Schouler to win the accolade of Womenswear Designer of the Year at the last night’s CFDA Awards.
the former-child star twins picked up the prize for their label The Row, which they launched in 2007 and aims to offer discreet luxury, focusing on clean lines, fine fabrics and the perfect fit. The pair thanked one another in their acceptance speech.
Other winners included Billy Reid for Menswear Designer of the Year and Reed Krakoff for Accessories Designer of the Year. Recipients of the Swarovski Awards for Emerging Talent were British shoe designer Tabitha Simmons for accessories, Phillip Lim for menswear and Joseph Altuzarra for womenswear.
