Emerald Green is Pantone Colour Of 2013

Every December Pantone announces their forecast for the following year and this year Pantone 17-5641 Emerald has been chosen and is described as ‘a lively, radiant, lush, vivid, verdant green’ which ‘enhances our sense of well-being further by inspiring insight, as well as promoting balance and harmony’.

Patone Emerald

The brand said: ‘Most often associated with brilliant, precious gemstones, the perception of Emerald is sophisticated and luxurious.

‘Since antiquity, this luminous, magnificent hue has been the color of beauty and new life in many cultures and religions. It’s also the color of growth, renewal and prosperity – no other color conveys regeneration more than green. For centuries, many countries have chosen green to represent healing and unity.’

Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, said: ‘Green is the most abundant hue in nature – the human eye sees more green than any other color in the spectrum.

‘As it has throughout history, multifaceted Emerald continues to sparkle and fascinate. Symbolically, Emerald brings a sense of clarity, renewal and rejuvenation, which is so important in today’s complex world. This powerful and universally appealing tone translates easily to both fashion and home interiors.’

Emerald featured in Pantone’s last Colour Report, and was also incorporated into the Spring/Summer 2013 collections of many designers, and has also recently been spotted on Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton.

To arrive at their selection for Colour Of The Year, Pantone ‘combs the world looking for color influences’. This can include the films that are in production, traveling art collections, hot new artists, popular travel destinations, technology, new textures and sports events.

Holmes and Yang NYFW debut

Katie Holmes made her debut appearance as a New York Fashion Week designer this week.  The label, Holmes & Yang, the fashion line she runs with her old friend and stylist Jeanne Yang, was the first time to be show at a fashion week.

“This felt natural to us. We have taken a lot of time to get to know our customer.” The label was founded three years ago, and in Britain is already sold in Harvey Nichols. Yang added: “We have been doing things in baby steps because we really want to be careful and get to know the business.”

According to Holmes, their customers are “intelligent, strong women of all ages” who appreciate clothes that are “empowering, sexy, and sensual.”

Presented on a group of models who stood or a sat on a scattering of wooden crates wearing Manolo Blahnik heels or Stubbs & Wootton slippers.

This label will obviously receive a lot attention thanks to the divorce drama surrounding its co-designer, but hopefully the collection can attract the right kind of attention. The collection is all made in America, “We make everything but the knits in New York – we have a fantastic factory in LA for the sweaters – and we are proud of that.”

Victoria Beckham shows her latest collection at New York Fashion Week.

Victoria Beckham Spring/Summer offering which she showed over the weekend at New York Fashion week which went down better than the celebrity designer anticipated.

Sales of Beckham’s two ready-to wear lines (this catwalk one, handmade in London), the new, slightly lower priced Victoria, Victoria Beckham range, sunglasses and denim totaled £60 million in 2011.

“I’ve always wanted to do tailoring, but I couldn’t get the shoulders right – i like them very neat, – so we parked it”. Victoria said, but this collection it looks like she has cracked it. Working with a new super-stylist, Joe McKenna, thigh length jackets with zipped slashes were layered over buttoned-up, white cotton mini shirt dresses and white flared mini skirts, some with pleated chiffon hems.

The collection looked more youthful and androgynous than previous collections, but still with painstaking details. Short sleeves were embellished with lattice work broderie anglaise that echoed the finishes of her slim, gold chain-handled bags. Lingerie dresses featured delicate lace trim and sheer backs.

“I’ve been listening to lots of customers, and for versatility, they want separates.” added Victoria, about the collection.

What do you think of the collection? We especially love the 2nd look.

The shocking lengths some models go to in order to maintain their catwalk-ready figures.

As the seasons fashions weeks are in full swing,  one model has spoken of the great lengths some models go to in order to achieve the sample-sized figure that they are required to have.

Russian model Kira Dikhtyar told Fox News that “packs of cigarettes, daily colonics, laxatives, Phentermine diet pills, Adderal, prescription drugs that suppress the appetite” are just some of the techniques employed by models to not eat and stay thin.

“I’ve heard stories that some modelling agents encourage girls to do speed and cocaine in order to speed up metabolism and eat less. And all kinds of injections are becoming more and more popular, from HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) injections that go with a 500-calorie diet plan to T3 thyroid injections that healthy models inject in an attempt to speed up their thyroid function, which results in a faster metabolism.”

HCG injections consist of a hormone which is produced during pregnancy and causes the uterus to be enriched with a thick lining of blood vessels and capillaries so that it can sustain a growing foetus. As a prescription medication, HCG injections are often used in fertility therapy, however, they have recently received attention for their use as a potential weight loss aid due to their ability to suppress appetite. Health authorities have advised against using them as a method of weight loss due to serious side effects such as gallstones, stroke and blood clots.

The 24-year-old model has also claimed that some models resort to eating cotton balls in order to fill their stomachs, and said that she had been turned away from designer Elie Tahari for being too thin.

Recently two major initiative have been put in place to help discourrage models taking such extreme measures. The CFDA released guidelines asking New York fashion week designers to, ask models for I.D., encourage those with eating disorders to seek help and to provide substantial amounts of healthy food backstage. Vogue have launched ‘The Heath Initiative’ which is a a pact between 19 of the magazines’ international editors to encourage a healthier approach to body image within the industry.

What do you think of the shocking measures that some models take to stay thin?
