It has been announced that Alexander Wang will take up the position of creative director at Balenciaga.
WWD has learned the news from reliable market insiders and suggests that the announcement will be made next week, though Balenciaga are yet to make an official statement.
Wang will be taking over from the current creative director Nicholas Ghesquière after announcing his exit two weeks ago, sending shockwaves through the fashion industry.
Alexander Wang is said to fill the position whilst still running his own ready-to-wear label, which showed its first full womenswear show in 2008 and now boasts menswear, accessories and a diffusion line T by Alexander Wang.
He will be taking over a PPR-owned label, with 62 stores worldwide and a loyal global following, in what is one of the most exciting developments the fashion world has seen in a long time.

Children in Need is back round again and this year Pudsey has had a makeover. Twenty-nine top fashion designers have been given the job of giving him a designer makeover.
The collection, curated by Katie Grand, LOVE magazine’s editor and Louis Vuitton’s consultant, will be exhibited in Selfridges in London and Manchester until November 14, before going to auction. A limited-edition run of three bears that have been given the fash-over by Anya Hindmarch, Paul Smith and Selfridges will also go on sale.

Balenciaga has unveiled the highly-anticipated campaign image for their latest scent, ‘Florabotanica’, starring Twilight actress Kristen Stewart.
In the campaign Kristen wears a structured floral-print dress from Nicolas Ghesquière’s spring/summer 2008 collection for the label.
“I think that’s kind of perfect for this particular ad. Usually, a fragrance ad would definitely be (sexy),” she told WWD of the ad. “When I first stood there, I was like, ‘OK, do you want me to show the curves of the dress? Do you want me to stand like this? Like that?’ And they were like, ‘Just be comfortable.'”
Balenciaga’s creative director, Ghesquiere, had reportedly had his eye on Stewart ever since she appeared in the 2002 film Panic Room as a diabetic 12-year-old. “I remember thinking, ‘Wow, I would love to do something with her one day.’ She’s so Balenciaga,” said Ghesquière.
“There is something natural about it,” explained Stewart of the fragrance. “It’s very alive. I think that as a young person wearing it – considering that I’ve never worn a scent – it kind of puts you on this level of, like, ‘Whoa, check me out.'”
‘Florabotanica’ is the third fragrance in Balenciaga’s repertoire, following on from ‘Balenciaga Paris’ and L’Essence’. It includes a vetiver, amber and caladium-leaf accord, and a (hybrid) rose, carnation and mint accord.
