Valentino AW13

Valentino has just released the first images from their autumn winter 2013 campaign, with inspiration coming from Dutch art masters.

The campaign was shot by photographers Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin and is a mixture of model shots and Flemish-style still life images, all shot reminiscent of 17th Century artists Vermeer and Rembrandt.

Valentino’s Creative Director, Maria Grazia Chiuri spoke to WWD about how she saw the shots – “women represented like paintings, caught in the intimacy and magic of their gestures” with her co-creativedirector Pierpaolo Piccioli summarising it as “the magnificence of Flemish lights and 10 different characters of contemporary feminine grace and regality.”

Saint Laurent Autumn/Winter 2013-14 campaign

Cara Delevingne has landed another high profile campaign: as the new face of Saint Laurent. The 20-year-old model features in the fashion house’s autumn/winter 2013-14 advertisements alongside musician Cole Smith of band DIIV.

The images were shot by creative director Hedi Slimane and the campaign will be his first autumn/winter campaign since joining the brand in March 2012.

Loewe launch Tales from Spain

Loewe will launch a more youthful and more accessibly-priced collection, named Tales Of Spain, on May 22nd which will be available exclusively at Selfridges with prices ranging between £125 and £895.

The one-off range can be seen for the first time through a short film designed to reflect the vibrancy and energy of the designs.

“It’s a youthful take on one of the signatures of Loewe and I referenced prints from our archive from the Seventies and Eighties,” Loewe creative director Stuart Vevers told Vogue. “We have a great archive of over 5,000 silk scarves, which I think gives us a real legitimacy in print. It was important that the references were moved on and made relevant for today.”

“I wanted the collection to be colourful, youthful and optimistic,” said Vevers. “We chose to clash three different prints together and use bold, bright colours. All of the prints share a florid, melodramatic form that make a shameless appeal to the senses – they’re bold but feminine.”

Louis Vuitton dresses a holographic projection.

Louis Vuitton’s creative director Marc Jacobs has costumed holographic ‘Vocaloid’ Hatsune Miku, one of Japan’s biggest popstars, for her operatic debut.

Miku is what’s described as a 3D ‘Vocaloid’, she’s one of Japan’s biggest popstars and routinely sells out stadiums, even though she is just a holographic projection with a computer-generated voice.

The show, which debuted in Japan last December but is now going on tour due to popularity, will hit Tokyo in May and Paris in November, reports Global Grind

Alexander Wang set to take creative director position at Balenciaga

It has been announced that Alexander Wang will take up the position of creative director at Balenciaga.

WWD has learned the news from reliable market insiders and suggests that the announcement will be made next week, though Balenciaga are yet to make an official statement.

Wang will be taking over from the current creative director Nicholas Ghesquière  after announcing his  exit two weeks ago, sending shockwaves through the fashion industry.

Alexander Wang is said to fill the position whilst still running his own ready-to-wear label, which showed its first full womenswear show in 2008 and now boasts menswear, accessories and a diffusion line T by Alexander Wang.

He will be taking over a PPR-owned label, with 62 stores worldwide and a loyal global following, in what is one of the most exciting developments the fashion world has seen in a long time.

Beyoncé Stars in House Of Deréon A/W Campaign

As well as being named one of the youngest women on the Forbes ‘Most Powerful Women’ list this week, Beyoncé has released the latest campaign for the Knowles family fashion line, House of Deréon.

Shot by famed international celebrity and fashion photographer, Jean-Baptiste Mondino, in the desert the collection channels a more rock ‘n’ roll spirit with leather jacket, cut out dress and leopard print thigh-splitting maxi skirt complete with black wide-brimmed hat.

The autumn delivery is focused around the ‘boho-inspired’ girl who attends the festival and includes floor length skirts, casual jersey tops paired with denim that is an homage to the alternative rock bands, their music and eclectic sense of style.

For winter, the inspiration is more focused around Beyoncé’s Glastonbury stage look. This delivery features sequined styles and an intensified color palette that uses strong shades of ruby and amethyst ground with black to create a bold, exciting fashion statement that evokes a luxe party theme.

Brand co-founder, creative director, designer and mother of Beyoncé, Tina Knowles said, “I am so excited about this autumn and winter ad campaign. The images of Beyoncé are amazing and we had a lot of fun using the festival experience as our inspiration. Like music, fashion has a universal appeal and we look forward to hearing the consumer’s reaction to the new campaign and to the collection.”

Lana Del Ray is confirmed as the new face of H&M

H&M have confirmed that Lana Del Rey will be the global face of H&M’s autumn’s advertising — with a second campaign planned for winter.

The rumours first surfaced at the end of last month when the New York Post reported a source as claiming Del Rey was in the process of shooting with the Swedish brand.

“The mood is very L.A. noir,” said Donald Schneider, H&M’s creative director. “It’s inspired by our fall collection.” Looking like a Fifties screen siren in one ad — the print campaign was photographed by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin — Del Rey wears a pale pink angora blend sweater. Del Rey performed a cover of “Blue Velvet” for a minifilm that will be released on hm.com on Sept. 19 and subsequently distributed globally. Edited versions will be used as TV commercials.

Lana Del Ray released her first album back in January, Mulberry have already named a handbag after the singer and she was signed in January by Next modeling agency and she landed on the cover of Vogue in March. The H&M campaign is her first modeling job.
