Are you suffering from Stuffocation?

This week saw a very interesting, and very relevant, feature in the Evening Standard about a 21st century problem penned as ‘Stuffocation’

The afflicted will find themselves in situations such as, writer James Wallman says, “Having a bulging wardrobe but not being able to find anything to wear, having to fight your way through piles of stuff that you do not use to find the thing that you need, and on receiving a present, not having the gut reaction of ‘thank you’ but rather ‘why would I want this?’. With up to half of Londoners now feeling this way.”

We are now realising that we do not need mountains of stuff for status, symbolism or material recognition but instead we  need to start streaming our lives, downsizing, recycling and reducing our waste.

He suggests thaat everyone should use the festive season wisely. Start by clearing out anything that is not needed anymore, and also think about your gift ideas. Do not buy more stuff, but opt for experiential presents instead. Make a memory not a mess!

Well, there is no easier place to start than ClosetBox. First clutter stop should always be the wardrobe. So, if you haven’t worn it for years or it doesn’t fit, then get camera snapping and posting – especially with our festive free listing code for the whole of December. Xmas2013

Designer Dolls

Whether it is funky teddy bears, painted elephants or decorated plates, I simply love a quirky campaign that requires a designer/artist to put their stamp on an alternative product – and even more so when it is in the name of charity.

The latest fundraiser is for UNICEF, and involves a number of design houses creating a one-off doll with the theme ‘Wonderful Paris’ in mind, to be sold at a UNICEF auction on December 2. The full collection will be on display at the Paris’s Petit Palais until December 1.

All proceeds will go towards providing vaccinations for children in the Darfur region of Sudan.
Here is some of the designs from the world’s most elite designers.

Embellished

With but a week or so to go until the final month of the year, we are swiftly moving into the ‘party season’.

Whilst I will be looking at a number of festive party styles in the next couple of weeks, I thought I would get us started with a bit of embellishment. If there is one season that requires heaps of sparkly embellishment, be it for brunch, dinner or office party, it is the ‘party season’.

SOPHIA WEBSTER

Not since the 00’s when the Sex in the City ladies marched through the NY streets wearing their Manolos has there been such an exceptional, alternative and ‘I will not eat for an entire month to buy them’ type of shoe designer.

British shoe designer Sophia Webster creates shoes that dreams are made of. Her collections are like works of art that are colourful, playful, cheeky, sexy and above all, completely and utterly beautiful!

From classic with a twist, to quirky and outrageous, they are shoes that will have heads turning and feet skipping.

The Beckham fashion empire continues….

David Beckham has designed a collection for British brand Belstaff.

It will be a menswear collection that will include luxury moto classics redefined by Beckham’s iconic personal style. The former footballer will also star in the the Belstaff 2014 global advertising campaign.

The Beckham for Belstaff collection will launch exclusively at Belstaff stores worldwide and Belstaff.com in March 2014, and will then roll out with select global distribution in June 2014.

Isabel Marant hits the high st

In less than a week H&M will launch its latest design collaboration. The newest collection – which will feature clothing and accessories for men and women – will arrive in stores on November 14 and will be designed by French design house Isabel Marant.

The Swedish chain has built a reputation for creating fashion’s most covetable and talked-about designer-high street collaborations.

It has previously partnered with some of the fashion world’s leading names including Karl Lagerfeld, Stella MacCartney and Versace creating collections that sell out within hours.

We love it, and we especially love discount designer items at ClosetBox. Check out our Boutique section.

Trend Watch – Tartan

There is no doubting that fashion goes in cycles, with a trend often being revived and updated every decade to suit the ever changing needs and tastes of the fashion pack.

This Autumn, Tartan makes a comeback. Whether being Bay City Rolled in the 70’s, Vivenne W and punk inspired in the 80s or as part of the grunge rave scene in the 90s – tartan always seem to have a moment. A/W 2013 sees it in its most recent reincarnation.

A number of designers have influenced this new trend, including Celine, Stella MacCartney, Marc for Marc Jacobs and Clements Ribeiro.
